Market Background

Demand for stainless steel products in Indonesia is expanding across import and distribution channels. For a local stockist, purchasing decisions involve more than choosing a grade. The order structure must also account for product form, finish, dimensional requirements, surface protection, processing and container planning. When 201 and 304 colored stainless steel sheets are sourced through separate channels, these variables can increase coordination work and complicate inventory control.

This case explains how one Indonesian importer and distributor consolidated multi-grade and multi-finish purchasing into one supply route.

Client and Application Scenario

The customer imports stainless steel materials and distributes them to the Indonesian market. Its purchasing scope covered 201 and 304 coils, sheets and colored stainless steel sheets for stock and downstream orders.

The supply plan therefore had to distinguish grades and finishes clearly. 2B and BA were managed as base surface categories, while Mirror, Hairline (HL) and Color represented separate decorative finish options. This classification connected purchasing descriptions with receiving, storage and local distribution.

The customer needed to coordinate 201 and 304 products, coils and sheets, several finishes, processing services and loading arrangements. As the number of specifications increased, fragmented sourcing created additional work in order matching, inventory classification and shipment planning.

Our Solution

Mellow placed the 201/304 coils, sheets and colored stainless steel sheets within one sourcing program. The selection sequence began with grade, product form, required finish and order specification, followed by local distribution needs. Treating 201 and 304 as separately identified grades avoided merging different materials under the general label “colored stainless steel.”

Cut-to-size processing, slitting and surface finishing were arranged according to the order structure. Common ASTM and JIS stainless steel requirements provided the relevant reference framework for material, surface and dimensional acceptance. Surface categories were managed individually: 2B, BA, Mirror, Hairline and Color were identified separately so the receiving team could match each item to the purchase list.

Protective film was applied to decorative surfaces before handling and export preparation. The loading plan then combined 201 and 304 products and different finishes within a full container. Centralizing material supply, processing, protection and loading reduced the number of separate procurement interfaces and created a clearer order-management process.

Customer Feedback

The supply plan incorporated the customer's requirements for 201/304 colored stainless steel sheets, multiple finish combinations, cut-to-size processing, slitting, protective film and mixed-container loading. Managing the materials, processing and loading plan together created an executable route for import and local distribution, while product identification by grade, finish and specification supported sorting after arrival.
