Production Process of Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel
Cold-rolled stainless steel is valued for its high precision, smooth surface, and enhanced mechanical properties, widely used in automotive, electronics, and kitchenware. Its production follows a rigorous 6-step process to achieve superior quality.

First, hot-rolled coil preparation is the starting point. Hot-rolled stainless steel coils (typically 304, 316, or 430 grades) are selected as raw materials. They undergo degreasing with alkaline cleaners to remove surface oil and contaminants, then rinsed with water. This step ensures no impurities affect subsequent rolling, preventing surface defects.

Second, cold rolling forming shapes the material. The cleaned hot-rolled coils are fed into multi-stand cold rolling mills (usually 4-high or 6-high mills). Through repeated rolling (2-5 passes), the thickness is reduced from 3-12mm to 0.1-3mm, with strict thickness tolerance (±0.01mm). Rolling speed (200-800 m/min) is adjusted based on thickness requirements to ensure uniform deformation.

Third, annealing and pickling relieves stress and improves ductility. After cold rolling, the steel becomes work-hardened. It is annealed in a continuous furnace at 800-1100°C for 5-20 minutes to restore plasticity. Then, it undergoes pickling in a mixed acid solution (nitric + hydrofluoric acid) to remove oxide scales formed during annealing, revealing a clean surface.

Fourth, temper rolling (skin passing) optimizes surface and flatness. The annealed steel is passed through a temper rolling mill with low pressure (10-30 MPa). This step reduces surface roughness (Ra ≤ 0.8μm for 2B finish), corrects minor warping, and stabilizes mechanical properties. It also prepares the surface for optional finishes like mirror polishing or brushing.

Fifth, slitting and cutting meets custom needs. Using slitting machines, wide coils are cut into narrow strips (width tolerance ±0.1mm) or cut into sheets of standard/custom sizes via shearing or laser cutting. Edge trimming is also done to remove burrs, ensuring safe handling and installation.

Finally, quality inspection and packaging ensures compliance. Inspectors check thickness, flatness, surface defects (scratches, pits), and mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation) via sampling. Qualified products are wrapped in moisture-proof PE film and packed in wooden pallets or crates to avoid corrosion and damage during transport.

This process balances precision and efficiency, producing cold-rolled stainless steel that meets strict industrial standards for diverse applications.
Advantage

Hot-rolled 201, 304, 430, and 316 stainless steel plates deliver exceptional durability and versatility for industrial and architectural applications. Each grade offers unique metallurgical properties tailored to specific environmental and mechanical demands. Grade 201 provides cost-effective corrosion resistance for moderate environments, while 304—the industry standard—excels in formability and oxidation resistance. Grade 430, with its ferritic structure, suits decorative and mildly corrosive uses, and 316, enriched with molybdenum, withstands harsh chemicals and marine conditions. The hot-rolling process enhances structural integrity, yielding plates with uniform grain structure and superior surface flatness.

Manufactured under stringent quality controls, these plates ensure consistent performance across global supply chains. Their enhanced mechanical strength from hot-rolling makes them ideal for heavy-load applications such as structural supports, pressure vessels, and industrial machinery. The surface finish, though slightly textured from the rolling process, is perfect for applications where aesthetics are secondary to function—or can be further processed for polished results. Available in various thicknesses and dimensions, they offer flexibility in design and fabrication, reducing material waste and accelerating project timelines.

Ideal for sectors ranging from construction and transportation to food processing and chemical plants, these stainless steel plates combine resilience with adaptability. Their resistance to scaling and deformation under high temperatures extends service life even in demanding thermal environments. With global certifications and traceable mill test reports, buyers can confidently integrate them into critical systems. Whether you're reinforcing infrastructure or engineering precision components, hot-rolled 201, 304, 430, and 316 plates provide the reliability and performance your projects demand—without compromise.
