A stainless steel finish affects appearance, cutting orientation, grain continuity after bending, protective-film selection, cleaning, and incoming inspection. Turkish buyers sourcing stainless steel sheet or coil for appliances and commercial kitchens should first identify whether the part is a visible front, internal component, or frequently touched surface. The finish should then be matched with the fabrication route and final viewing conditions.
2B normally has a smooth, low-reflective gray-silver appearance and is a common base finish for cold-rolled stainless steel sheet and coil. It can be considered for appliance internal panels, equipment housings, non-featured kitchen components, and parts that will be cut, bent, or processed again. Visible grain continuity or matched adjacent panels require appearance criteria and an approved sample.
BA receives its bright appearance from bright annealing and generally does not show the pronounced abrasive grain associated with No.4. It may suit selected appliance fronts, trim, and components requiring a clean reflective look, but it should not automatically be described as a mirror finish. Stronger reflection can reveal fingerprints, waviness, handling marks, and gloss differences, so the RFQ should define appearance, protective film, and viewing conditions.
No.4 is a mechanically polished finish with a recognizable directional grain. It is commonly evaluated for commercial kitchen worktops, cabinet fronts, equipment covers, and selected appliance panels. Final appearance depends on abrasive selection, polishing equipment, processing direction, and batch control. When several panels will be installed together, the buyer should specify grain direction and approve a physical reference or limit sample covering acceptable shade, grain, and surface marks.
Appliance fronts may require BA, No.4, or another confirmed decorative finish according to the product design. Side panels and internal structures may place greater emphasis on forming, film protection, and defined cost limits, making 2B a possible option. If the sheet will be stamped or deep drawn, finish selection must be evaluated together with grade, thickness, material condition, lubrication, tooling, and trial results. A finish code alone does not establish formability.
Worktops, cabinet doors, and equipment fronts normally require a controlled visible appearance, so No.4 is often considered. Internal supports, base plates, and less visible areas may use 2B when it meets the project specification. BA can support a bright design, although reflective surfaces reveal cleaning marks and lighting differences more readily. For food-equipment applications, buyers must separately confirm grade, applicable standard, surface condition, and cleaning media; no finish designation alone means “food grade.”
The RFQ should identify grade, material standard, sheet or coil form, thickness, width, length or coil weight, and applicable tolerances. Finish requirements should state 2B, BA, or No.4, one-side or two-side treatment, grain direction, protective-film type, and the planned fabrication process. If surface roughness is an acceptance criterion, specify the parameter, measurement direction, instrument, or referenced standard rather than using a general statement such as “uniform surface.”
Visible decorative parts should be approved against a physical sample or limit sample before production. Record the viewing distance, angle, and lighting used for inspection. At delivery, verify that coil numbers, heat numbers, package labels, and material certificates correspond. Photographs support traceability but do not completely replace physical inspection under consistent conditions. For sea freight to Turkey, also confirm film protection, interleaving, edge protection, moisture barriers, and package identification.
2B supports many functional and further-processed components; BA supports designs requiring a bright reflective appearance; and No.4 supports visible surfaces requiring a directional brushed effect. None is universally superior. Turkish buyers should select the finish according to part location, fabrication route, cleaning conditions, and acceptance method, then document grade, dimensions, tolerances, samples, grain direction, protective film, and packing requirements in a verifiable purchase specification.
